Description

The certificate of principal residence mentions the place where the person is registered, i.e., where he or she lives during the major part of the year. It is therefore impossible to own two principal residences.

How to apply?

If you do not have an electronic ID card or residence card:

  • Free
  • 20 euros to be paid to FPS Foreign Affairs for the legalization if the document is to be used abroad (outside the European Union)

Waiting period

If the certificate is to be used in Belgium: immediately.

If the certificate is to be used abroad (outside the member states of the European Union): 5 working days. In this case, the City is responsible for requesting its legalization from the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs.
